O Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Ourém, Luís Miguel Albuquerque, assinou na reunião de Câmara de cinco de fevereiro um contrato com a Universidade de Aveiro e a IDTOUR para intensificar o trabalho de consolidação da Rede Europeia de Cidades Santuário, colocando o Município de Ourém na linha da frente deste projeto. Com esta iniciativa a autarquia pretende promover ações que conduzam esta rede à adoção de modelos de trabalho conjunto, mais formais e comprometidos entre todos os parceiros europeus, num processo que vai assentar na partilha e transferência de informação e conhecimento entre todas as entidades parceiras envolvidas.
Fátima integra o grupo das sete cidades-santuário denominado “Shrines of Europe” (Rede de Cidades Santuário da Europa), que é composto também por Lourdes (França), Loreto (Itália), Czestochowa (Polónia), Mariazell (Áustria), Altötting (Alemanha) e Einsiedeln (Suíça), cidades que apresentam em comum o facto de acolherem no seu território importantes santuários. O contrato celebrado formaliza o início de um processo de trabalho que ao longo dos próximos anos irá envolver, numa base nacional e internacional, as comunidades locais, os parceiros institucionais, os agentes do turismo, os centros de conhecimento, entre outros, já que as cidades santuário apresentam contextos e dinâmicas sociais, culturais e económicas similares. Estas realidades têm também merecido reflexão entre as cidades parceiras para procurarem adotar estratégias de planeamento, ordenamento e desenvolvimento que promovam os territórios e em simultâneo respondam aos desafios que as mesmas apresentam, como é disso exemplo o fenómeno da sazonalidade do turismo. Contudo, a inexistência de uma plataforma formal de trabalho regular tem limitado a prossecução de objetivos mais ambiciosos como, por exemplo, o acesso a incentivos comunitários específicos. Neste contexto, o projeto ambiciona criar condições para a certificação de uma Rota Europeia pelo Instituto Europeu das Rotas Culturais que possibilite a criação e promoção de itinerários turísticos europeus e internacionais, a dinamização de ações de promoção conjunta mais relevantes e incisivas, a organização conjunta de congressos e eventos culturais internacionais.
O Município de Ourém pretende assim contribuir para a promoção da cidade de Fátima nas regiões de influência das cidades-santuários parceiras da Rede, projetando Fátima como um destino universal, de fé e espiritualidade, que congrega anualmente milhões de pessoas enquanto um dos principais destinos católicos de peregrinação mariana no Mundo. Estão já a ser preparadas algumas ações a concretizar no primeiro ano de trabalho: a criação de um conselho científico internacional, um Observatório Internacional de Turismo Religioso, a organização de um congresso internacional e ainda a edição, em parceria com a Universidade de Aveiro, de um número em revista científica especialmente dedicado ao Turismo Religioso.
